Author's Comment The Universidad de las Americas-Puebla enjoys an exceptional academic reputation owing much to the creativity of American entrepreneurism. Its campus is considered one of the most beautiful in Central America. In less than twenty years two American educators, Dr. Henry L. Cain and Dr. Paul V. Murray, germinated an idea into an internationally recognized academic reality, and did so “almost wholly dependent upon tuition payments.”2 Once Mexico City College was well established, by 1960, it was the recipient of several multi-million dollar grants (totaling 10.6 million dollars) from the U.S. Agency for International Development (funneled through the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City), along with a large land grant and considerable, continuous funding from the Puebla based Mary Street Jenkins Foundation.Note K These revenue sources supported the campus’ move from Mexico City to Puebla, and its continued operation and growth. The Mary Street Jenkins Foundation was established by William O. Jenkins,Note D an American businessman living in Puebla, Mexico, who had “built the biggest personal fortune in Mexico." --Joseph M.
